Pastor James Simmons and his daughter Iva Conner scoured the wreckage this morning for anything the fire spared.

Staff writer Haley Thayer reports:

Fire destroyed a small church in South Dallas early this morning.

The blaze was reported about 2 a.m. at the Final Call Community Church in the 6700 block of Bexar Street.

No one was injured, but the building was gutted, leaving the congregation of 20 to 30 people with no place to worship.

?It is like losing a member of your family,? said Iva Conner, whose father, James Simmons, leads the 12-year-old church.

Conner said she heard about the fire on the radio.

?We never received a call about it or anything,? she said. ?No one knows what happened, we don?t know anything.?

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

?We need to hold together in faith and realize that it is not the building but the people who make this church.?

No one was hurt in the blaze, but not much inside the tiny church escaped the blaze.
