In North Korea?s latest attempt at anti-American propaganda, the nation has released a new video that shows President Barack Obama and American troops in flames. The video also gives Washington credit for leading the impoverished country to becoming a proud nuclear power.
As noted by the NY Times, North Korea routinely uses songs, operas and novels to try to promote hatred against the United States and to belittle its neighbor, South Korea. Now that the Internet has become such a big part of life, North Korea?s government has begun releasing its videos on the web.
In the past few years, North Korea has posted thousands of videos onto YouTube. Clips like the one featuring President Obama give outsiders a small glimpse into the type of propaganda that North Korea?s population has to live with on a daily basis. ?
The video, entitled ?Thanks to the Americans,? is 90 seconds long and was uploaded to the popular Internet video site on Sunday by North Korea?s official uriminzokkiri website.
?It is not incorrect to say that the United States? gangster-like policy of hostility prompted us to become a most strong military power,? says the text that scrolls across the screen during the footage. ?Thus it can be said that it was ?thanks to? the Americans that we conducted a nuclear test.?
During the video, flames are superimposed on President Obama and he is seen walking into the U.S. Congress. The clip ends with what looks like a nuclear device being detonated in an underground test site.
Last week North Korea released a video showing a young boy having a dream about what appeared to be New York City. In the dream, the city was bombarded by missiles and engulfed in flames.
One of the major themes of many of the videos seems to be that government officials believe their country is becoming a high-tech nuclear power under the young leader Kim Jong-un.
