This program offers 6 two-hour sessions and has been shown to improve parents? confidence and ability. This program is part of a scheduled series of classes offered by Broadreach in Waldo and Knox Counties.
Active Parenting Now is a video-based education program targeted to parents of 5 to 12-year-olds who want to improve their parenting skills. Class material promotes mutual respect among family members within a democratically run family. The program teaches parents how to raise a child by using encouragement, building the child?s self-esteem, and creating a relationship with the child based upon active listening, honest communication, and problem solving. It also teaches parents to use natural and logical consequences to reduce irresponsible and unacceptable behaviors.
These parent classes will be open to all parents and child care will be provided during class. Because of grant funds awarded by the Maine Children?s Trust, there will be no cost for parents who want to participate.
Broadreach provides a variety of services to young parents and their children in Waldo and Knox Counties. Broadreach services have been making a critical difference in the lives of area children and families since 1983. Each year over 2,000 families with children benefit from the agency?s quality education and support programs. Broadreach has over a quarter of century expertise in delivering parenting education, family support, early childhood education and family literacy programming. Other provided parent education options include Kids First, Guiding Good Choices, and the Nurturing Fathers Program.

DALLAS Feb. 14, 2012 UT Southwestern Medical Center has installed a new system to deliver extremely precise and individualized radiation treatment, assuring that cancer patients in the region have access to the latest advances in radiation oncology.
The VERO system, the first and only currently operating in the entire Western Hemisphere, allows UT Southwestern physicians to locate and track tumors and more precisely target radiation compared to other technologies. This helps avoid damage to healthy tissues and reduces the number of treatment sessions needed resulting in better patient outcomes and experiences.
"Radiation oncology at UT Southwestern is unique in all of North America in terms of the breadth of our technology, research and patient care capabilities," said Dr. Hak Choy, chairman of radiation oncology at the medical center. "We are very fortunate to be able to offer many different technologies that enable us to provide the optimal approach tailored to individual patient needs."
Patients at UT Southwestern needing therapeutic radiation have access to 10 state-of-the-art machines: seven linear accelerators, two specialized stereotactic machines (CyberKnife and Gamma Knife) and the VERO an array of options that distinguishes UT Southwestern Medical Center from other medical centers.
The newest system offers exceptional precision targeting, enabling treatment for patients for whom the risk of damage to nearby non-cancerous tissue precludes further use of standard radiotherapy. It allows doctors to monitor and adapt to each patient's anatomy and to precisely coordinate delivery of radiation with natural movements such as breathing, or in response to changes that can occur between treatments, such as tumor shrinkage or weight loss.
Because a stereotactic approach allows oncologists to deliver radiation in such a concentrated and precise manner, fewer treatment sessions are needed, Dr. Choy said.
Dr. Bruce Meyer, executive vice president for health system affairs at UT Southwestern, said: "As advances are made, we are committed to bringing the most effective therapeutic technologies to patients whose lives depend on receiving the best care from the best doctors armed with the best technology. We owe it to our patients to offer them leading-edge treatment options."

* Allow yourself to take your time. While there?s no point in wasting time, there?s no need to feel pressured, either. You should spend some time finding your credit counselor, to be sure you have the best one for you.
* Counseling is usually only for unsecured debts. Your debt management plan will usually only cover things like credit cards, or debt without collateral. So your house and car payments would be unlikely to be included. Be sure to ask.
* Most plans take 30-60 months to complete. During that time, you will likely be required to refrain from applying for additional credit or creating any additional debt.
* Get regular statements. Ensure you?re getting regular statements showing how much money is being paid to whom.
Credit counseling isn?t for everyone, but if you have a serious debt challenge that you can?t resolve on your own, you may find this option beneficial. Start asking friends for referrals and begin your search today. The sooner you begin actively dealing with the situation, the faster you?ll feel empowered to take control of your financial life.

Jolie, 36, said that "it didn't take much for me to be driven" while directing the film, noting that her cast lived through the 1992-95 war in Bosnia.
Actress Vanesa Glodjo, she said, crossed Sarajevo's "Sniper Alley" ? named after the heavy fire by sharpshooters that made it notoriously dangerous ? daily to get to her theater school.
"Art meant that much to her that she risked her life every day," Jolie said. "The privilege you feel to have the opportunity to work with such a dedicated and such an extraordinary human being made it all ... just wonderful."

PHILADELPHIA (AP) ? Retired Cardinal Anthony Bevilacqua (beh-vih-LAH'-kwah), who served as head of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia for more than 15 years, has died. He was 88.
Spokeswoman Donna Farrell says Bevilacqua died Tuesday night in his sleep at Saint Charles Borromeo Seminary in Wynnewood, where he lived. He had been battling dementia and an undisclosed form of cancer.
Bevilacqua was criticized but never charged by two grand juries investigating child sex abuse in the Roman Catholic church.
He was the spiritual leader of the 1.5 million-member Archdiocese of Philadelphia from 1988 until his retirement in 2003.
Bevilacqua's death comes just days after lawyers battled in court over his competency as a witness in an upcoming church-abuse case involving his longtime aide.
